Shanks Is Trying To Take The Road Poneglyph of Zou

We know that all Shanks needs to do to catch up to Luffy in the race for the One Piece is get the Zou Poneglyph. He already has Kidd’s Poneglyph rubbings (WCI and Wano) and he knows where it is thanks to his connections to Roger.

But I don’t think Shanks getting it is going to be as easy as some people might say and it all comes down to who the ruler of Zou currently is.

If it was still Inuarashi and Nekomamushi still ruling, they would let Shanks have the Poneglyph no questions asked since he was their old cabin boy from their time with the Roger Pirates. Carrot, on the other hand, has no such connection. While there is the slim possibility that Luffy might have told her about Shanks, it doesn’t change the fact that the Red Hair Pirates are strangers to Carrot and the rest of Zou.

Plus, they have not yet earned the trust of the Minks like Roger and the Straw Hats have so they no trust Shanks without Inu and Neko vouching for him. But even if Shanks did show he was on the level, there’s still a chance Carrot might resist giving him the Poneglyphs.

The reason why Carrot accepted the role of being the new duchess of Zou is the mention of Pedro’s will. Pedro staked his life on the Straw Hats and left it to Carrot to see them through the rest of their mission on Whole Cake because he believed that they were fated to bring “the Dawn”, whatever that it. This could mean that, in order for the Dawn to arrive, Pedro (and by extension Carrot) must believe that Luffy should become King of the Pirates.

To Carrot, an interloper like Shanks trying to take the Road Poneglyph of Zou is someone trying to stop Luffy from becoming King of the Pirates and thus, prevent them from bringing the Dawn.

Some people say that Barto’s actions are gonna be the first conflict the Red Hair Pirates have with the Straw Hats, but I think this potential conflict with Zou could have more far reaching implications.
